The Yankees won the pennant every year in the 1950s, except for 1954, when the Cleveland Indians won and 1959, when the Chicago White Sox won. By coincidence, the same man managed both of those teams. The manager was Al Lopez.
Frank Robinson was a Major League Baseball outfielder and manager. He is the only player to win MVP honors in both the National and American Leagues. He has won the triple crown, World Series (2X) and was elected to the baseball hall of fame in 1982.
Felipe Alou - Montreal Expos
Joe Girardi - Florida Marlins
Buck Rodgers - Montreal Expos
Joe Torre won two Manager of the Year Awards. Both as the manager of the Yankees (1996 & 1998).
If you are talking about the Big Leagues, your answer is Frank Robinson when he took over the Cleveland Indians in 1976. He became a rather successful manager who was most recently managing the Montreal Expos when they moved to Washington DC. He never won a World Series as a manager but as a player he became the only player to be MVP in both the American and National Leagues and formed part of the great Orioles tems of the late 1960's and won a triple crown in 1966 and a World Series ring that very same year. Robinson forms part of the baseball Hall of Fame and is part of the 500 home run club. In short he was one of the best players ever as well as a good manager.
