The Summer Olympics are held every four years, e.g., the Summer Olympic Games held in 2004 in Athens, Greece, were followed by the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 in Beijing, China. The 2012 Summer Games will be held in London, England.
According to the International Olympic Committee website, the Olympics are held every four years to respect the origins of the Ancient Olympics which were held every four years. An Olympiad is four years in length and this is the length of time chosen to be between the Olympics in both the modern and ancient eras. Although an IOC-sanctioned event was held in 1906 (but the IOC do not widely regarded this event as an Olympics) and the idea to hold events in the gap between olympics was dropped).
By Olympics I'm assuming you mean Olympics. If you are then your awnser is that scientific evidence suggests that the Olympics started in ancient Greece as a tribute to their gods. It had most of the events we have now in the Olympics but some of the original events were removed and some new events were added. This is why when the Olympic torch makes it's way around the world it is always lit and starts it's journey in Greece. One of the events was the relay race which was run naked and the baton was on fire at one end. Women were also not allowed to compete in the Olympics because gender equality was not social protocol in those days. There were states or territories in Greece different to the current ones and anyone from outside of the states was also excluded from competing.
these were the events which were held in ancient olympics such as swimming, shooting etc.
There are no winter Olympics in 2016. Winter Olympics are held every four years on a two-year offset from the summer Olympics; the last one was in 2014, and the next one will be in 2018.The 2015 Summer Games still have a week or so to go, but the US is currently leading with gold medals in 26 events. Second place is currently Great Britain with 16, with China (15) hot on their heels. The US is also leading the overall medal count at 70, with China in second place with 46.
