THE First World Series was in 1903, (Boston vs. Pittsburgh) along with the first test flight and Henry Ford founded Ford Motor Co. all in 1903.

One needs to remember that there were other major leagues before the American League formed in 1901.The majors played a series after the end of the regular season between the National League champion and the champion of the American Association that was called the world series. This took place in the 1880's and was designed more for the profit of the owners rather than determining a true national champion. Depending on the year played, the series' varied in length up to 15 games. It should be noted that after the demise of the American Ass. in 1893, a postseason series was played for several years between the first and second place teams in the sole surving National League. It was called the Temple Cup Series and the winner was considered the to be the league champion. So it seems that the idea of a "wild card team" is not counter to baseball tradition as it has been used in the past.

First World Series in 1903Baseball's first modern World Series was in 1903. The American League's Boston Red Sox upset the New York Giants 5 games to 3, in a best of 9 series.

The first baseball series called the World Series took place in 1882, with the American Association champion playing the National League champion. But those were considered exhibition games, and are not generally recognized as part of the World Series history.

1887 - World championship Series

Spalding guide of America in 1887 named it "Worlds championship Series" (later shortened to world series 1903) in the hope that other nations such as "Australia and Great Britain" would soon play and "become rivals"...none have. Also, as it was American league and national league meeting, then a bigger name was used..world....as regards America hoping Australia then Great Britain would play it, source states... "This didn't happen, but the name "World's Championship Series" stuck..

**I shall elaborate on the point why. People ask with Spalding guide naming it World championship Series attempting to entice other countries to play it of which it states Australia and Great Britain... why they don't play it, a major reason for this is the British invented Baseball aka Rounders for children and its historically been for them, whom it was intended...

http://www.nra-rounders.co.UK/dyncat.cfm?catid=17177

.....so while you don't see adults from UK playing it, its VERY popular among kids up to 5th grade..notably girls who have formalised competitions nationwide. That's an elaborate but it basically covers all the bases (pardon the pun)

The first world deries was in 1876

In the late 1800's and the early 1900's there was rivalry between the two Baseball leagues the United States had to offer; National League and American League. In 1903 the two leagues experimented in a postseason involving both of the rival leages. The newly formed American league's representative were the Boston Americans. The National league offered their best; the Pittsburg Pirates. Boston won the series in eight games, playing the best-of-nine with Pittsburg. Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds was the home of the Boston Americans, while Exposition Park III was the home to the Pittsburg Pirates. The first three games were played at the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds, the next four were played at Exposition Park III, and Game 8 was played at Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds.

Although in 1890 the National League champions Brooklyn Trolly Dodgers played Louisville, winners of the American Association for what, at the time, was called the championship of professional baseball.

Depends on how you define "World Series."

Between 1884 and 1890, the champions of the National League and the American Association (a league that eventually disappeared) played a haphazard championship series that some historians, but not all, consider to be a baseball championship on par with the present one. This series was called the "world" series by some newspapers.

The first series between the champions of the National League and the American League was held in 1903.

What is a 1975 world series baseball worth unsigned?

Rawlings first started to make World Series baseballs in 1978 that features The World Series logo. Without the logo it would be difficult to prove it was used in the World Series and not just a Official Major League baseball used during the regular season. To, be valued as a 1975 World Series baseball would be in the ability to prove so. A "Game used" baseball would have to be accompanied with provenance, and the quality of the provenance will dictate the added value. A letter from a player, team, or League official would be acceptable. A letter from a fan at the game would not hold much weight if any. Without provenance the added value will rely on the buyers belief in the story.
