J.G.A. Creighton was a young man from Nova Scotia who was attending university at McGill in Montreal. He is generally regarded as "the father of organized hockey". In 1895 he organized the first public hockey game in Montreal at the Victoria Ice Hockey Rink. Two years later, in 1897, he was instrumental, as secretary of the Metropolitan Club of Montreal. in organizing and publishing the first set of Hockey Rules.
