The Braves moved to Atlanta from Milwaukee for the 1966 season.
However, the Braves beginnings are those of the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first professional Baseball team in the United States established in 1869. The Red Stockings folded the following season and several of their players, led by player/manager Harry Wright, moved to Boston and formed the Boston Red Stockings, who were a charter team in the first Major League of baseball, the National Association in 1871. The National Association folded in 1875 and the Red Stockings became a charter member of the National League that was formed in 1876. They were renamed the Red Caps for the 1876 season. The team stayed in Boston until 1952 when it moved operations to Milwaukee.
