Not so. All I can guess is that either someone talking about that game on TV either spoke incorrectly and mentioned it as the record or maybe you misheard them saying something along the lines of "...most points in any NBA quarter since..."
The actual record was set by the Buffalo Braves (forerunner to the San Diego, and eventually Los Angeles, Clippers) in the fourth quarter of their October 20, 1972 meeting against the Celtics. They were getting thoroughly destroyed through three quarters as they trailed the Celtics 103-60 entering the fourth.
Despite annihilating the Celtics 58-23 in the final frame, they still lost by 8, 126-118.
