The RMS Olympic was a Royal Mail ship that was first part of the White Star Line. it was in commission for 24 years from 1911 until 1935. It was then retired and scrapped at Southampton, England.
Yes, it was constructed and launched before the Titanic, as it was the first ship of the three to be made, hence the Olympic class. She was launched on 20th December 1910 and her maiden voyage was on 14th June 1911. Interestingly, aside from a few accidents (collision with HMS Hawke, the 1912 "mutiny", The HMS Audacious incident and the collision with Nantucket Lightship LV-117), the Olypmic survived, unlike her ill fated sisters, until her scrappage in 1937.
The Titanic's sister ships were called the Olympic and the Britannic. The Olympic was the 'lead ship' and built first. The Britannic was built after the Titanic and was originally going to be called the Gigantic.
yes the titanics sister ship the rms nomadic has recently been restored and now resides in belfast
Titanic had a sister ship built similar but a little different to her and it was called RMS Britannica. Titanic had a TRUE sister ship called RMS Olympic. Olympic was already being built at the same time Titanic was getting built at Harland and Wolf shipyard. Olympic also being built at the Harland and Wolf shipyard in Belfast. Titanic cost $7,500,000 to build in 1912. After the Titanic disaster the White Star Line, builder of those ships, was bought out by the Cunard line because of financial reasons after the Titanic disaster and Cunard owns what you may know today is the Queen Mary. Oh and if you were wondering what R.M.S. stands for? It stands for Royal Mail Steamer.Olympic (older sister) Titanic (middle sister) then Britannic (which later was switched with the name Gigantic) the baby sister.
The sister ship 'OLYMPIC" was in a rear collision with a navel ship to which the government found the Naval ship not liable making the "Olympic" owners pay for the damages..The Olympic became not insurable and basically worthless..in fixing the ship the dressed it up to look like "Titanic" and they became twins with only a few minute differences. They switched names while a series of dry dock switches where done and the mostly broken "Olympic" sank when the Capt run it into the iceberg on the damage side that they had replaced alot of the front to stern plates. They collected the insurance and sailed the Titanic as the Olympic.
I believe that the Hindenburg's sister ship was the LZ-130 Graf Zeppelin
