Estonia did not compete as a country at the 1988 Games. They were a part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics at the time and their athletes competed under the USSR flag.

Estonia's declared independence in 1991 and sent a team to both the Summer and Winter Games in 1992 where their athletes won 1 gold medal. That was by Erika Salumae in women's 1000 meter sprint cycling.
