As of the 2007 season, the NFL record for passing yardage in a season is held by Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins who threw for 5,084 yards in 1984.

Then in the 2011 season Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints lit it up for a record setting 5,476 (not counting playoffs).
