He didnt nor did he ever claim to. The British invented Baseball.
"The game of Rounders has been played in England since Tudor Times, with the earliest reference being in 1744 in "A Little Pretty Pocketbook" where it is called Baseball. It is a striking and fielding team game, which involves hitting a small hard leather cased ball with a round wooden or metal bat and then running around 4 bases in order to score" Source:

The British invented baseball (aka Rounders)... as inactive children at that period needed some mild exercise so the game was created as result. In Commonwealth nations its played by many kids up to age 11.. while its very popular among girls with UK having organised Leagues nationwide.
Baseball/Rounders the British invented for as an activity for unfit small kids, pitch, bat and run around 4 bases. 200 + years later its still very popular today among British kids up to 5th Grade (that's primary 7 in UK).. girls have formalised competitions.

**People ask with the Spalding guide of America in 1887 naming it "World championship Series" attempting to entice other nations namely "Australia and Great Britain" to play it... why they havent, a major reason for this is the British had invented it for children.. so while you don't see adults from UK playing it, its VERY popular among kids up to 5th grade..notably girls.
Neither Abner Doubleday nor Alexander Cartwright "invented" baseball; the game evolved over many decades from earlier games like rounders and town ball.
The story that Doubleday invented it in 1839 is based entirely on one letter written decades later by Abner Graves, a man who ended up in an insane asylum. The letter itself is silent on what rules Doubleday added to other games. There is not one other mention of Doubleday's involvement in the development of baseball, and definitely not in any of the hundreds of letters he wrote in his life -- which included his being at West Point for all of 1839.
Alexander Cartwright was the first to have several rules, now common to the game, written down; and the evolution of the game from those rules to modern baseball is well documented. Nevertheless, it is not clear what part (if any) he had in actually making those rules.
Alexander Cartwright was known as the father of baseball. His religion is not stated on any of his official bios.
