Who played for the Baltimore Orioles in 1914?

Babe Ruth actually signed with the Orioles in 1915.

Did Babe Ruth play on the Orioles?

Not at the Major League level. Babe Ruth began to play semiprofessional ball in Pennsylvania and was signed by the Baltimore Orioles (International League) in 1914. That same year he was sold as a pitcher to the Boston Red Sox of the American League. The Baltimore Orioles franchise started as the Milwaukee Brewers (1894-1901) moved to St. Louis in 1902, and became the St. Louis Browns (1902-1953) then became the Baltimore Orioles in 1954. The franchise has no relation to the Baltimore Orioles of the International League that the Babe played with.

What year did babe Ruth start playing for the orioles?

1914. Baltimore was a minor league club at the time playing in the International League. Babe spent about 5 months with the Orioles before they sold his contract to the Red Sox in July, 1914.

How did Babe Ruth get the nickname?

In 1914, while living in an orphanage, one of the teachers introduced Ruth to Joe Dunn, owner/manager of the Baltimore Orioles. After watching him pitch, he signed him on and became his legal guardian. When his teammates saw him they nicknamed him 'Jacks newest babe' and it stuck! Bambino in Italian is also babe.

How did george hermen Ruth get the nick name babe?

He got the nickname soon after he signed with minor-league Baltimore Orioles at the age of 19 -- at the time, legally a minor. His story is that his fellow players considered him a "babe in the woods" for his naivete; others say he was the team owner's "babe" because of Ruth's young age. The nickname stuck.
