Does a tennis ball decelerate when it is thrown up in the air?

Yes; ANY object pitched into the air will decelerate as the force of constant gravity gradually overcomes the power of the initial force that projected it into the air. As the ball reaches its peak, we say it is then moving at zero MPH - feet per sec. It then commences to fall and gradually picks up speed as it falls back to the earth.
