Home RunsBabe Ruth introduced the era of hitting Home Runs. At one point he was hitting more home runs than some teams combined. After the Black Sox scandal of 1919, when gamblers fixed the World Series, fans were disenchanted with the national past time. Babe Ruth by hitting so many home runs brought the fans back to the game.

Actually, Ruth did not do it single handed, but he helped. The real answer is threefold.....1.) A new "live ball" was introduced under similar circumstances as it was after the modern era's strike shortened season. 2.) Walter Johnson was every bit Ruth's equal in popularity at the time and his 1924 Senators helped reestablish Baseball with their dramatic rise to prominence and game seven 12 inning win over the Giants in the World Series. 3.) Babe Ruth, no doubt he is given the lion's share credit and deserves much of it, however even the Babe was helped by the "live ball". Revisionist often forget to point out change in the ball and Johnson's contribution.
