Among those that served were Hank Greenberg, Ted Williams, Bob Feller, Yogi Berra, Hoyt Wilhelm, Warren Spahn, Red Schoendienst, Leon Day, Nester Chylak, Joe DiMaggio, Pete Gray, Bart Shepard, Phil Rizzuto, Stan Musial, and many, many more.

Because (in general) someone who is healthy enough to play baseball is also healthy enough to serve in the military, many ball players -- including some of the best of their time -- either joined or were drafted into the military. Thus, the quality of the game suffered.
