Wilma Rudolph was 20th of 22 children. She was home schooled until seven, (because of her disability) and later attended Burt High School where she played basketball (following her sister Yolanda) and was discovered by Tennessee State track & field coach Ed Temple. She received a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, graduating in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in education (after her track career she became a teacher at Cobb elementary school) No Wilma Rudolph did not get a education as she was one of ninteen children.

Wilma Rudolph was a colored woman. She had to face the probelms of segregation. Because she was colored woman, people wouldnt let her do the things she wanted to do. She was a very good runner at track. but she couldnt ever show because of segregation, when segregation was over she was one of the first colored woman track runners. There is a statue of her running in Kentucky.
Wilma had to over come her polio so she couldn't walk for a long time and when she could walk she had to wear a brace around her leg one day it heals....

Wilma was born prematurely and weighed only 4.5 pounds. Again, because of racial segregation, she and her mother were not permitted to be cared for at the local hospital. It was for whites only. There was only one black doctor in Clarksville, and the Rudolph's budget was tight, so Wilma's mother spent the next several years nursing Wilma through one illness after another: measles, mumps, scarlet fever, chicken pox and double pneumonia. But, she had to be taken to the doctor when it was discovered that her left leg and foot were becoming weak and deformed. She was told she had polio, a crippling disease that had no cure.
That was Fanny Blankers-Koen of Netherlands who won four gold medals at the 1948 Games in London in 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 80 meter hurdles, and 4x100 meter relay.
