How popular is Scuba diving? Some people are afraid of water. Don't ask them. If you ask a diver, he'll tell you there is nothing on earth remotely like it. He would be right. SCUBA diving is a very popular sport. Not as popular as some participation sports, but more than others. Diving offers the diver a chance to get up next to nature in a way that is impossible unless one actually puts on the tank and a flotation device and gets wet. You've seen lots of television shows that have divers in them. Movies, too. It's beautiful down there! Heck, there's more water covering this big blue marble than there is land. And visiting an aquarium to see the fish is like looking in a café and smelling the food. Wouldn't you rather go in and eat? Why not learn to dive? Some of us live a long way from the ocean, and fresh water diving, while fun, isn't as cool in most cases as salt water diving. But it's still fun! One way one might measure the popularity of a sport might be by the number of magazines published on it. There are a flock of diving magazines. SCUBA diving is a multi-million dollar business in the US in equipment alone. If one considers the travel and lodging associated with SCUBA diving trips and vacations, the numbers go outta sight. Is diving for you? You make the call....
According to most estimates, there are approximately 1.2 million scuba divers world wide.
66% Male
34% Female
Average age is 29
PADI, the world's largest scuba certification agency, has barely grown over the last 6 years. In 2007 they had 133,562 members and in 2012 they had 135,710 members, less than a 2% increase.
Between 1997 and 2004, the Divers Alert Network reported an annual fatality rate between 11 and 18 deaths per 100,000 members per year.
Scuba Diving is one of the best activities to do when you are on a nice tropical island. Under the sea, down where it's wetter, you'll find coral reefs teeming with life, Nemo's cousins, lots of fish, plants, and beautiful colors. Whether you are looking to start or looking for new places to go, here's a list of some of the best places to go diving in the world:
The Blue Hole in Belize is one of the most famous dive sites in the world. This site was made famous by Jacques Cousteau who declared it one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world. You can dive in crystal clear water and see several types of reef sharks as well as the bull shark and hammerheads.
Thailand has a number of famous dive sites: Phuket, Ko Tao, Similan Islands, and the Surin Islands. In fact, you can pretty much dive anywhere in the country, though the best diving is near Ko Tao and up near the Similans. Moreover, Ko Tao is a cheap place to learn to scuba dive.
The Gilis in Indonesia is the new hot spot, with people flocking here in ever increasing numbers. With good reason- the reefs and waters here provide some amazing visual sights. And with the island cheaper than its neighbor, Bali, there is even more reason to come here.
Located in Malaysia, Sipadan is possibly one of the best five dive sites in the world. The place is teeming with life. You will see turtles, cave systems, sharks, dolphins, schools of fish, bright coral, bright fish, and everything in between in such sheer volume, your head will explore.
The Great Barrier Reef needs no introduction. Everyone knows about it. Located off Australia, the world's longest reef has all the tropical sea life and coral you could ever imagine. No visit to the country is complete without a visit to the reef.
Hawaii has some great scuba diving. The islands are ringed with reefs and wildlife. The area north of the islands was just made into the largest marine reserve in the United States, ensuring great diving for years to come.
Tropical islands as beautiful as Micronesia always have one thing in common: they are encircled by vibrant coral reefs. Sites like the Blue Wall make Micronesia one of the top destinations in the South Pacific. It's out of the way, inexpensive, and pristine.
Located in the Philippines, this tropical paradise is also diving paradise. You'll find all the usual suspects here, as well as abundant reef systems. When you are done swimming below the sea, you can enjoy the beaches above the water.
Off the beaten path in Brazil; Here you will find lots of life among the blue waters that circle these islands. You'll be able to swim with turtles, dolphins, and much more.
The Red Sea, with its clear turquoise blue water, has some excellent dive sites. The best of the reefs are absolutely stunning with a real diversity of life. From Sharm El Sheikh to the wrecks at Sha'ab Abu Nuhas to the Thistlegorm and Ras Mohammed, you'll find excellent diving all over the Red Sea.
That depends on how you look at it. In terms of sheer volume of skydives which take place, the USA wins hands down. If you look at which country has the most centers per capita, then it is Germany.
However as to which country has the most skydivers per capita, then I don't know.
In the UK, we have the biggest National Championships per jumping capita, so is that a sign of popularity?
its not popular
We call it "skydiving". Actually the term skydiving was coined in the 1950s and came into popular use in the 1970s and 1980s. Up until that time what we do was most commonly referred to as "sport parachuting."
people are ttly obsessed with it for no reason!!!!
Tandem skydiving people is the term giving when two people skydive strapped together. When people skydive for their first time they must tandem skydive with a professional.
You can skydive as an individual, but it is more interesting to skydive in groups. The most popular discipline is formation skydiving and the most popular competition style of that is 4-way (or 4 man) formations. I skydive at a place called Skydive Hibaldstow and there we host the National Championships in Formation Skydiving every year. It's a team event and really exciting to take part in.
Walt Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, Skydiving
The country with the highest density of dropzone is Germany. The country with the most dropzones is the USA.
If first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
Skydiving is always cool ;)
well i think that in most countries you may have to be over 18 to go skydiving which is the answer from all the websites that i have visited and they all say that you should be over 18 years of age to go skydiving
