Well, there really isn't an answer to how popular paintball is. I play myself and it is one of the fastest growing extreme sports today! Chances are if you live i an urban area, than there will probably be a field or store less that an hour away. It already is huge, and I think someday there will even be Olympic paintball...

Paintball has been studied and ranked many times as being the #3 most popular "extreme" sport in America. Paintball has also grown in popularity 4x faster in its first 20 years than any other sport in their first 20 years.

In my opinion, Motocross is more popular, only because of the hype it's gotten through the media (TV, clothing stores, video games). Paintball has seen a lot of criticism because people use paintballs for vandalism instead of their intended uses.

There are many leagues, scenario games and fields that are well organized, have competitions for prizes, draw large crowds, and certainly require physical skill. Paintball also has many rules and customs.
