For me ,as a body builder, i will recommend taking it not more than half an hour after your workout, make sure the body parts you aiming that day are really exhausted before you drink. If you want for higher recovery , take it in the morning straight away after you wake up, as on that time your body protein is the least, replenishing it helps on repair on muscle. But taking after work out is a must (:
Nick
i have worked out for 12 years now and i have consumed a lot of whey protein powders
i have never had side affects from whey but i think it is still a supplement so i do go off whey after 1 to 2 months of it ,i think the only way it would be unhealthy is to consume more than the required amount everyday
Casein is a slow digesting protein so should be taken when a long, slow flow of nutrients are needed, right before bed, as soon as you wake up and/or at lunch time for example.
You would avoid taking it right before (pre) or after(post) your workout because in them situations you would want a fast digesting protein to get to your muscles as quick as possible.
No, but it will help
That depends entirely on the contents of your pre-workout supplement. You should always check with your doctor or nutritionist before taking, changing, or combining supplements.
You don't exactly need a protein shake before your workout. A protein shake is best taken right after you are finished with your workout. After your workout your muscles have begun to break down and the faster you take in some protein the faster your muscles will recover. I would only recommend taking protein at other times of the day if you are not recieving the approximate amount of protein you need through your diet.
Any time that's best for you on your work out days
casein protein is not fast digesting is slow and its a bed time nutrition but pro complex is fast digesting and its best to take it before! breakfast and after your workout but casein only after workout and before sleep
After. You need the protein to build your muscles after the workout, not for the energy needed to work out.
after is more important then before but you can do both. you want about 1.5 grams of proten per pound of muscle. diff people say diff things about that ratio but that's a good one. you rbody can only absorb so much proten at a time though so spread it out every three hours try to eat somthing. proten befor bed is equally important as after workout as your muscles heal the most as you sleep.
You should take 15 minutes to properly stretch before a workout. Failure to stretch properly can result in injury, and can also limit the size and strength benefits of the workout.
It is suggested that you take your protein shake before you eat anything. It is always better to give your body a high protein meal before you eat your regular food.
both protein helps before and after
You don't need to, and in fact you very likely will not notice a difference. But it is a good source of protein and it is important to have energy (which would of course also come from carbs) before your workout. It would probably better to have the whey immediately afterwards however.
Yes you will still gain muscle. If you eat during the day your body takes in protein. This alone will help muscle recover and build mass. While taking in protein immediatly after lifting will help promote muscle growth, protein taken in while eating throughout the day will also help
