Basically what it said is that there are special parts at the end of your bones. During puberty, they will expand, causing you to grow. Once you stop growing (21 guys, 18 ladies), they will have fused together, preventing future growth. However, heavy weight lifting, especially during the ages of 12-14, can put strain on these areas and cause them to fuse together faster than normal, minimizing your growth (there are other factors that influence this, including genetics and bone density). Now obviously, this shouldn't be a concern about your arms but, your legs, on the other hand, can be affected in this way. So if your young, and you're doing heavy squats/presses, and you notice your not growing as fast as you should, this might be a problem. Remember, you can lift weights any time during your life, but this will be your only chance to grow.
