Some horses have nose bleeds when given strenous excercise, so they ar given lasix to lower their blood pressure reducing the possiblity of the nose bleeds. It is done to improve the publics view of horse racing, not because the horse is in any real danger from the nose bleeds. I just doesn't do the racing industry any good to see a horse in the winner circle with blood dripping from a nose bleed or bloody frothy foam around the mouth and nostrils.
It means that the horse is racing on the medication Lasix for the first time. Lasix is the trade name for furosemide and is a diuretic used to prevent pulmonary bleeding in race horses. Approx. 80% of U.S. race horses run usuing Lasix.Subsequent uses of lasix will still be noted in the race program, sans "1."
Yes
All the races use dressage.
They can be good race horses against other Morgans, but not against Thoroughbreds or Quarter horses.
Twenty horses can race at a time
AnswerYou have to go so bad that you run or "race" to the bathroom! Racehorses are also sometimes administered a diuretic, lasix, which increases their urination.More historical informationHorses are very modest creatures and most often will not urinate in public. Because the ones in captivity (ie race and show horses) spend so much time in their stalls, they get used to being there and feeling at home there. It often gets to the point where they will not leave their stalls to relieve themselves.Because of this, they say that racehorses outside of their stalls are often in dire need of relieving themselves and are just waiting to be returned to the stall in which to do so.An alternative explanation is that some racehorces are "bleeders". When bleeders race, they develop bleeding in their lungs which shows up as bleeding from the nostrils. Therefore, bleeders are administered lasix, a powerful diuretic, to induce increased urination. The ensuing volume depletion cuts down the bleeding and performance is improved. Thus, they "pee like a racehorce" from the lasix. Lasix is outlawed at some race tracks.
"L" means Lasix or Furosemide is a medication to prevent horse from bleeding through their noses during a race

They don't really have a name for a group of race horses as far as I know. Cause generally when racing, they compete against each other. And it's a solo race for the win. So there is no association with the other horses, like for example a team of basketball players. There is no real name for a pack of race horses or a herde of race horses, or horde of race horses..............
