There have been many great quarterbacks for the University of Tennessee over the last 20 years. Some of the quarterbacks were Peyton Manning, Tee Martin, and Tyler Bray.
Certainly West of the Mississippi it would qualify, but 1876 is hardly early in the American higher education system. Thats actually not correct. Baylor University in Waco, Texas is the oldest university in Texas founded in 1845. Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas is just as old.
As of October 2023, the University of Georgia has had a limited number of black quarterbacks in its football program historically. Notable players include Quincy Carter, who played in the late 1990s and became the first black starting quarterback for the Bulldogs. While the number has increased in recent years, the overall representation of black quarterbacks at Georgia has been relatively small compared to other programs.
Bevo is the name of the mascot of the sports teams at the University of Texas at Austin, a Texas longhorn steer with burnt orange coloring. The shape of the Longhorn's head and horns gives rise to the school's hand symbol and saying, Hook 'em Horns. The current Bevo is fourteenth in the line of longhorns that have been the university's mascot.
Texas A&M is the oldest having been established in 1876. tu was established about 10 or 15 years later.

Baylor University located in Waco, Texas was founded in 1845. It was chartered by the Republic of Texas. The motto is, "Pro Ecclesia, Pro Texana," which means for the church for Texas. Pro Ecclesia refers to Baylor's affiliation with the Baptist Church. Baylor has always been a private university in state of Texas. Today Baylor is the largest Baptist University in the world.
It has been at the 65% level, as can best be approximated.
In the several biographies/articles I have looked at on the Internet, there has been no mention of football at the University of Texas. These articles state that he won a scholarship and studied theatre and dance and appeared in productions of the University and the Ballet of Austin.
