Well it depends how fat the person is. If he/she is in good shape they should run 5 miles a week. If they're not in shape they should run 21 miles.

They won't last to long if you do a lot of meets. In fact, spikes aren't the best for cross-country. But they are optional in any type of running, and they do make spikes specifically for cross-country. But if you do a lot of meets like I do, they won't last very long. I've never used spikes, they mess you up they're more for track than cross-country. In fact I've worn them once and they messed up my running because they're meant for hard ground. Cross-country can be any ground but it is usually dirt or at parks.
