Well, to be good at karate, you need good core strength and a fair amount of flexibility, but if you don't, it doesn't matter as you improve these in lessons. It's also important to have good stamina (and attention span!), as you need to be able to keep going when doing a lot of dynamic activities like jumping kicks :D
