Typically in a Kata, which is Japanese, you will start standing straight up and then you will open your toes making a v shape. in the v shape your heels will be touching each other. After that you will move your hands from your side to the top of your thighs. Finally you will bow, when you come up from your bow(don't go too far down) you come back up to your original position.

After the bow your right foot will step out to make you stand shoulder width apart and you will then back a circular motion with both arms going all the way above your head to your fist closed and out in front of your hip. You will then say the name of your Kata. There are many names some of the names that I can think of on the top of my head is (please excuse my spelling) Takiyoku, Heion Sho Don, Heion Ni Dan, Heion San Dan, Heion Go Dan, Heion Yon Dan, Teki, Basi Di, Basi Sho, Un Su, and Ro Hai. Then you will finally start your Kate strikes)
