A post route is typically run by a wide receiver during a passing play. The receiver runs approximately 8 to 10 yards and makes a "cut" or quick change in direction to the field goal post on the opposite hash mark (If the wide receiver lines up on the right side of the field, he heads to the left field goal post). The "cut" can be made using a simple plant with the outside foot, or can be made with a "juke" move, which is basically a quick stutter step in the opposite direction of final movement. This is done to throw off the covering defender.
