The Honus Wagner T206 tobacco card has a high value because of it's scarcity. At one time there were only three known example of this card. Although there have been many more discovered since, it is still a rare, and sought after card.

The 2.8 million dollar 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card was the card that belonged to Wayne Gretzky, and I am sure this is the reason why the price is inflated. When Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall bought the T206 Honus Wagner card in 1991 for $451,00 there were also less known example of the card at the time.

Other T206 Honus Wagner cards have recently sold in the $200,000. -$400,000. price range. This would be closer to the market value of this card. The famous "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner" Baseball card will have a higher value than all other T206 Wagner cards because of it's history, and should be valued as a separate item.

In the early 1900's, many baseball cards made then were sold in packs of cigars. However, Honus Wagner did not want kids buying cigars to get his card and was against smoking. He made the tobacco company stop making his card and that is how there are only a handful of his 1909 tobacco card left today. The last card on public display indicated the card was worth about 3 million dollars.

In 1909, many tobacco companies issued a series of baseball cards with their products. These were the T-206 series of cards. There were cards of every player, but Honus Wagner, the best player in the league, opposed cigarette smoke. So, he legally forced the companies to take his card out of circulation, but some already got out. These cards are now worth millions. Hope this has helped.

How much is a T205 Honus Wagner card worth?

In a word, nothing. It's a replica. Replicas of this card have been printed time and time again. But, then again, it's worth whatever you can get someone to pay for it. The guy above me is right, but if someone just wants a Honus Wagner baseball card real or fake they might buy it. Even though it is worth about nothing. So I would say that the cost is probably somewhere between $0.02 - $1.00

How much is a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball with Honus Wagner's autograph worth?

Honus Wagner Pittsburgh Pirates team signed baseballA Honus Wagner single signed baseball is worth between $5,000.-$6,000. But when you add a Pirates team to the baseball the value dramatically goes down. Wagner was a Pirates coach from 1933 - 1953 and depending on the team could range in value from $300.00 - $1,000.00 without the Honus Wagner signature. Prices may vary based on condition, and the type of authenticity that accompanies the signature. Signatures that have not been properly authenticated could sell at half the market value or less. To get a more accurate value you would have to state the year the team is from. A Pittsburgh Pirates team signed baseball from Wagner's playing days would so rare it would be difficult to give a value.

What is the rarest cigarette card?

I believe the rarest of the cigarette cards is a Honus Wagner because he was very much opposed to smoking and when he found out his likeness was being used on a card in a pack of cigarettes he wwwent to the company producing these cards and forced them to remove his cards from their stock. There are a reported seven cards still in existence today.

Why is the the Joe Jackson auto worth only 40000 if it is even rarer that the 1909 Honus Wagner card and the 1909 Honus Wagner card is worth 2 million dollars?

First thing. You are comparing the value of a signature (apples) with the value of a baseball card (Oranges). Two different collectible items, two different groups of collectors. The value of a 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card is not $2 million dollars. This is the value of the "Gretzky T206 Honus Wagner" card which there is only one in existence making it more rare than a Joe Jackson signed baseball.A "Shoeless" Joe Jackson Single signed baseball has a "book Value" of about $25,000.-$40,000. But because they are so rare, it has been a long time since one has sold at auction. The book value is based on older auctions, and cannot be updated until another is sold at auction. In today's market if a Joe Jackson single signed baseball in excellent condition were to be sold at auction it would most likely sell at a record price much more than the current "Book Value"The 2.8 million dollar 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card was the card that belonged to Wayne Gretzky, and I am sure this is the reason why the price is inflated. When Wayne Gretzky and Bruce McNall bought the T206 Honus Wagner card in 1991 for $451,00 there were also less known example of the card. With that said. If a Joe Jackson single signed baseball in excellent condition should sell at auction in today's market it just might compete in value with a 1909 T206 Honus Wagner card, but not the ""Gretzky card" which is more rare (only one) than a Joe Jackson signed baseball.See Related Questions below for more info on Joe Jackson Signatures.
