What is a ball signed by Brooklyn Dodger great Carl Furillo worth?
Many other questions need to be answered before a value is
assigned. One factor is how legible and clean the autograph is.
Another factor for baseballs is what kind of baseball did he sign?
If it is a MLB issued National League baseball from the time he
played, it will be worth more than any other baseball, including a
recent MLB issued ball. You can gain a good estimate of how old a
MLB issued baseball is by looking at the name of the Commissioner
on the printed part of the baseball. The final and perhaps most
important factor is whether or not the autograph on the ball is
authentic. If a reputable authenticator has authenticated the
signature, the baseball is more valuable to a collector/buyer. Some
of the more reputable companies authenticating autographed
memorabilia are: PSA, AAU, Steiner, JSA, and Tri-Star. A final
factor determining value is how many are out there. One must
consider how many items the player signed. If a player rarely
signed items, that will drive the price up. Autographs of players
who signed a lot tend to be lower priced. Bob Feller signed a lot.
George Brett has not. I am guessing that a Carl Furillo signed
baseball should be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $25-$80.
I paid $85 recently for a Willie Mays signed ball.
