All sports people have competitive anxiety. How they interpret those anxiety symptoms is what determines whether their performance is positively or negatively affected e.g. if they think having butterflies in their stomach is a sign that they are nervous and about to fail, then they probably will. If they think butterflies are a sign of readiness to compete, then they will probably perform well.
