Because if you are not motivated you are less likely to do your best at the sport you are doing. Plus, you don't want to do good cause it feels like no one cares or is there for you. Also, ur just simply not hyped up and if no one motivates you there is no reason in trying or doing good. So due to lack of motivation sports are less better played because people have no reason to play their best, reason to try and lack of effort.
Competeing in sport events depending on the type of sport can be both mentaly and physically tyring. To be able to compete well in the sport you have to have good endurance and a low fatigue rate. The quicker you fatigue the less you will be able to do in you sport and the lower standerd you will competre at.
If you sleep for a short amount of time, your body wouldn't of had sufficient time to rest and recuperate. This will make your brain react slower therefore slowing your reaction time and your brains activity which in competitive sport can be the difference between winning and loosing the game.
Then the opposite for having a long good nights rest :)
