Krav Maga is a pretty good street fighting system but if you want to feel confident on the street when getting into an altercation it's best to have cross trained in a few different styles. Krav is very good at teaching you to react explosively to a real life situation. All the moves are practical and have purpose, there is nothing for show or flowery included. Taking a krav maga class will make you feel like you've enrolled in a boot camp, with instructors yelling at you, constantly changing the commands and scenarios in order to push you mentally and physically until you break down. The more they do break you down, the better you will be when you bounce back. In krav, they will teach you not to stop until your opponent is down and is not going to be getting back up.

DISCLAIMER: Putting someone down on the street like you will be taught in a krav class may result in criminal charges being filed against you since in many states or countries, you are not allowed to defend yourself after your opponent is no longer a threat. Also, if your opponent is not a perceived threat to witnesses, you can be charged with assault and battery if the court finds you or those you were protecting were not in immediate danger. This is especially hard to argue your way out of beating the crap out of someone who wasn't holding a knife or gun. Be prepared to face the consequences of anything you may do in a streetfight.

Who was the founder of Krav Maga?

Imi Lichtenfeld developed Krav Maga so that all may walk in peace.

How do you start krav maga training?

You need to locate a Krav Maga Training Place. You need to also be aware that most places have a variety of martial arts, or in this case "Fighting Systems". A Karate Dojo may offer Krav Maga, you just have to make some phone calls and ask around. When you pick a Krav Maga training facility you need to find out how the instructors are trained and any affiliation with a larger organization that trains and certifies instructors. Like anything else there are good and bad instructors and facilities. Talk to those training at the site and do some research on line. I operate two Krav Maga facilities in Maryland currently with 22 certified instructors and we are affiliated with Krav Maga Worldwide who has significant credentials in the civilian, law enforcement and military communities. Look for this type of credibility.

Best martial art in a street fight?

What is "best" is always a matter of opinion. The objective of a Martial Art in a street fight is first to survive, and then to prevail with minimal or no injury to one's self. Most systems of Martial Art contain elements that would be successful in street self defense, and could be used effectively depending on the specific circumstances, environment, and other conditions. For example, grappling and ground-fighting can be effective in some cases, but when confronted with multiple attackers, street gangs, or armed attackers, it would be impractical to roll on the ground with one person while being vulnerable to attack from others. The effectiveness of any Martial Art is dependent upon the quality of instruction, the dedication of the student, and the correct application in real-life self defense. A person may be really good in a specific system and another may be bad in another system. It doesn't mean one system is better than the other.

How would a MMA Fighter stand up against a krav maga fighter?

It depends on what kind of fight it is. MMA and Krav Maga are similar. They both take many different martial arts and combine them to be more effective. But they also have big differences. MMA teaches you ring fighting. They will teach you how to do well in things like UFC, or fighting tornaments. There are many rules in MMA. For example, you can not repetively kick somebody in the groin in an MMA competition. Krav Maga, on the other hand, is an extreamly brutal and efficient martial art. There are absolutely no rules in Krav Maga. They will teach you to fight until there is no fight leaft, in other words they teach you to fight until your opponet is physically unable to continue, or dead. (whatever is necassary) So, if you are in some sort of tornament, MMA will probably win, because their training revolves around rules. If its a fight on the streets, Krav Maga will destroy MMA, because on the streets, there are no rules and no refferies to tell you when to stop.*Ultimately it depends on who is better at what they do. Lets say we have two people who are about to fight. Person A does MMA, and Person B does Krav Maga, and they are getting into a street fight. Lets say that Person A has praticed MMA for 30 years, and Person B has practiced Krav Maga for only 6 months. In this case MMA would win because he has much more experience. Krav Maga has only 6 months of experience vs 30 years of experience. So it really depends on who has more experience, and who has more motivation to practice and train hard to do good.

Is Keysi Fighting Method the best street fighting system?

This is going to be a matter of personal opinion, as there is no real way of testing to prove one way or another. There are many different systems that are all based very similar concepts, including Krav Magna and Jeet Kune Do that are just as effective. Even the Military Hand to hand combat systems are very effective.

How do you fight using Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is reality-based self-defense. It has no rules, but is based on a fighting system that is very aggressive and counter-attacks immediately as part of many defensive tactics. Even blocking an attack it is done aggressively as an offensive move. There are no rules because Krav Maga is not taught for competitions like many martial arts, but it is designed to get you home safe. The offensive weapons are punches, kicks, elbows, knees but how they are used as part of a defensive tactic is what sets Krav Maga aside from kickboxing, for example. There are also defense against the weapons a bad guy on the street may use like knives, guns and sticks.

What martial art is best for real world usablity?

The best cannot be determined since you have not defined any criteria. My criteria would be that the system would be easy to learn, easy to retain, have credibility over time and not require fine motor skills. By these criteria I have picked Krav Maga as my system of choice as you might be able to tell from my screen name. However, it goes beyond the system to the course of instruction. Not all Krav Maga operations are the same. I have picked a Krav Maga Worldwide system because I feel they have the best program for developing instructors. There are Israel systems that are also good, but not as tailored to the laws and customs in the USA.

How do you spell kravmaga?

Krav Maga

Why is Krav Maga the best?

Krav Maga has appeal to many because it is based on simple easy to learn and easy to retain skills. It is not geared to competitions because there are no rules. The intent is to get home safe by whatever means necessary. Reaction to a violent attack builds upon ones natural reactions to the threat using gross rather than fine motor skills to fend off the attack and immediately counterattack. As a practitioner of Krav Maga, I think it is the best self-defense system for me. Depending on what you are looking for, it may or may not be the best for you.

Why should Martial Artists be concerned about a street fight compared to a sponsored Martial Art fight?

A Martial Arts event has rules the street doesn't. In a competition you are fighting someone in your same style and you know your opponent isn't going to kick you or hit you in certain places. On the street you may be fighting a thug who doesn't care about you or rules. Systems like Krav Maga train for street fights as opposed to competitions, so hopefully this type of training better prepares one for someone who is hell bent on doing you severe harm.

Can you tell me self-defence system which is very close to krav maga?

Well Krav Maga is a combination of many martial arts like Jiujitsu, Muy Thai, and Kickboxing. It seems that Muy Thai is pretty similar. MMA would be like the sport version of krav Maga. They are both a combination of several martial arts, both are modern, and both are proven to be effective, but MMA is a sport and Krav Maga is a combat. Krav Maga is Hebrew for "contact combat" Krav Maga is deadly and will teach how to defend yourself on the streets. So you can say that MMA is like Krav Maga, but just a little less brutal and deadly, and designed for things like UFC or boxing. (any kind of fighting that has rules.) But it will still work great on the streets.
