Baseball is not called softball. The game of softball is called softball because the ball used is softer than a baseball.
They named it softball because the game of softball was derived from baseball. The baseball had a hard core whereas the softball has a soft core, so they named it softball. Although the ball is not softball the core of the ball is soft.
When softball was first invented people called it lemon ball, diamond ball, super slow pitch, cabbage ball, indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball and because it was also played by women ladies' baseball. The name softball was given to the game in 1926.
softball was originally started as an easy baseball game. no gloves needed. it has turned into the equivalent to baseball. just with a bigger ball. most baseball players have trouble playing softball
The background nature of the game of softball started in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois. Softball was a variant of baseball that was played on a bigger field and with a bigger ball.
softball started because they had baseball. the boys didn't like the girls playing with them. so the girls decided to create a game like baseball. the ball they decided to use was bigger and it was softer. they called it "softball". they just wanted a game that they could enjoy with out being "yelled" at by the boys. it ended up being a more orginized game. that is how softball started.
If your at a baseball or softball game and you catch it in the stands it does not count as a out and you can keep the ball
baseball if men are playing, softball if women are playing
Baseball and softball are typically the same except baseball is usually played by boys, and softball is typically played with girls. The object of the game is to get as many points as possible. To get a point you must run around the bases once without being called out. You get out if someone catches or tags you with a ball.
Put simply, baseball pitchers throw overhand, while softballers pitch underhand.
fly ball, dead ball
softball is like baseball. it uses a bigger ball, metal bat, and the infield is made out of dirt not grass. there r other small differences too
They tell if the player is out or safe, if the pitch is a ball or strike, and monitor the game from getting out of hand(similar to baseball umpires)
A game played that is similar to baseball is softball, which is the female version of baseball. Rounders and T-ball are also adaptations of baseball, involving a baseball bat, diamond and bases.
Cabbage ball is a form of bat and ball game similar to softball / baseball. The difference is the size and hardness of the ball. A cabbage ball is the largest and softest of the 3 (e.g. cabbage ball, softball and baseball). Cabbage ball is played without a mitt and the diamond is smaller than a traditional softball / baseball. I am from New Orleans and played cabbage ball throughout my childhood. Back then, we referred to cabbage ball as "softball" and to softball as "ponytail ball" because the latter was baseball played by girls. Our summer leagues consisted of about 6 weeks of cabbage ball and then we would play 6 weeks of softball. Until I moved to the Northeast, I had no idea that cabbage ball was uncommon in other parts of the country. I now understand that cabbage ball is a game primarily played in New Orleans. I have no idea why that is, but it is. Ponytail was what it was called, but it started out as indoor ball because it was only played indoors. Today, the popularity of the sport has emerged to allow for play outdoors and indoors,. The indoor ball is now called "Cabbage Ball". This reason for the name is because it is the size of a Cabbage. Another important rule for cabbage ball is with adult mixed leagues, the guys have to bat opposite handed and the batting order has to rotate. Well, I think they called baseball, because for base.... their are bases in the game, and for ....ball, their playing with a ball.
Hi I play softball. It is used for playing the game. The pitcher uses it and the hitters hit it. The fielders field it. It was used so that girls can play baseball. Softball is much more difficult than Baseball. And the ball is no where near soft actually it is harder than a baseball. I hope i answered your question!
because in the 1900s the thought girls couldn't play baseball so girls then wanted to make their own sport that wasn't quite the same as baseball so they made bigger ball that were " softer" and softball was born.
