No. Watching sports on television, as well as live, is considered a hobby that brings enjoyment to the observer. Considering it a waste of time would be implying sewing, drawing, playing an instrument, collecting things, as well as going shopping for frivilous things would be considered a waste of time, as well.

"Yes, because sitting around playing Video Games is such a better use of resources."

Sports keep people fit and healthy, and keep them entertained. They are thus one of the best possible uses of time and money you can think of.

Do you mean performing sports or participating in sports?

Either way , I think that sports is a very good and efficient use of one's time. Through sports, you can enhance your overall health; blood flow, cardiovascular, muscles, power, strength, endurance, among others. (hence prolonging your life and its overall quality) It helps reduce stress and provide a very good alternative to use time (instead of doing drugs, watching tv 24/7, harming others or yourself). Sports also give you something to enhance yourself in for a distraction, motivation, or challenge while at the same time creating a very good social network; most of the team sports give you a sense of belonging and help develop extraordinary bonds with others who share the same passion of sports with you.

I can't of a single reason why it would be a waste of time. If anyone does have one please share :)
