Wrestling is on TV because there is a demand for it, and people generally will watch it. If nobody likes it, it wouldn't be on TV.
Back in the 1950's the programming was no where near what we have today. Pro Wresting became a big hit on Friday and Saturday nights with Russians, Germans, and Japanese as the bad guys or "Heels" as they're known in the business. Since the Cold War was on, and it was after WW 2 the "Good Vs. Bad" storyline was played to the hilt, much to the delight of fans across the US. After time, as with most things, wrestling saw a drop in fans until the late 70's early 80's with the event of World Wrestling Federation ( WWF now WWE ) and Hulk Hogan & the "Rock N Wrestling Connection".
