A player is thrown out if one person from their team is trying to get an unfair advantage over the other team. This includes:

Moving the stick before the puck is dropped

Not placing the stick properly when requested to do so

Not placing the body square to the faceoff spot

Encroachment into the faceoff circle by a teammate.

When thrown out, another player from the team must take the faceoff, usually that person is not as skilled

Can you be in motion during a faceoff in hockey?

The ref usually waits until all players are in position before dropping the puck. No player can go offside (cross onto the opponent's side of the faceoff) or get too close to the faceoff dot before the puck is dropped. The center (the player taking the faceoff) cannot have a false start. If any of this happens, the center is kicked out of the circle. If the player replacing the center is kicked out as well, then it is a delay of game penalty.

Icing in hockey?

I have played hockey since i was like 3. "Icing" is when you shoot the puck all the way down the ice without it being on net, hitting another player, or hitting the boards before it hits the goalline. If you shoot the puck into the zone when your on the other teams side of the Red Line then its OK. You can also ice it when your on penalty kill, (when your team has a penalty) If an icing is about to be called, the ref will put his hand and arm straight up into the air. The following faceoff will be in the team that iced it's zone, on the faceoff dot

How does a game of hockey start?

Field hockey: A game of field hockey is started by the umpire blowing their whistle to indicate time on, then a player of one team taking a free hit from the middle of the field while all other players are in their own defensive half. The ball is placed in the centre of the field. The team who is starting can play the ball in any direction they want, and the opposing team must be at least 5 metres away from it until it is played.Ice hockey: A game of ice hockey begins with a faceoff at centre ice (the circle and mark in the middle of the rink). The referee blows their whistle, to indicate the gane starting, and simutaneously drops the puck to be used between two players from opposing teams. As soon as the puck touches the ice, it is in play and either player may then proceed as normal. All players besides these two must be outside the faceoff circle until the puck is in play.

What is a faceoff?

In both ice hockey and lacrosse, the faceoff is a method of starting play. Two players on opposite teams stand facing each other; the ball or puck is placed between them and either can begin vying for it. In field hockey, such a play is called a bully; a Faceoff refers to a trademarked Obo product, a protective mask for defenders to use at penalty corners. The term has also come to be used in many areas outside of these, to describe a similar situation where two players compete for an advantage of some kind. It is sometimes described as a head-to-head and a showdown as well.

What would have to occur for a hockey player to be thrown out of a game?

In hockey, the official "penalty" that gets a player thrown out is called a "Game Misconduct". As the name implies, it is given to players who are guilty of some sport of unsportsmanlike behaviour. Sometimes this is repeated abuse of officials (verbal--physical is an automatic ejection), overly aggressive behaviour, etc. Hockey also has a "Match Penalty", usually reserved for players who deliberately attempt to injure an opponent. The penalty is ejection from the game and automatic suspension until the play is reviewed by the NHL.
