The Cibi which is actually pronounced "thimbi" is a Fijian war dance that was normally performed before or after a battle. It was brought to the attention of the northern hemisphere by the Fijian Rugby Union touring parties who always performed it before a match.
Its history in the sports event started in 1939 when Fiji prepared for its first rugby tour of New Zealand. Team Captain George Cakobau thought that his team needed a war dance to counter that of the All Blacks Haka. He adopted the Cibi. Its claimed that the tour party was the only one to have a complete 100% winning record of any that took on the All Blacks and their regions on their home grounds.
