Yes and no, it generally depends on the characteristics of the weapon you are using. The size, weight, type and caliber all have different impacts on how strong you need to be whilst firing it. For example if you are firing a .22 Caliber pistol you will not need much in the way of strength as compared to firing a standard military issue weapon such as an M16 or a SA80 in 5.56 caliber. Also shooting stance and technique can also play a large part, if you are shooting from a prone position as compared to a standing position you will need significantly less strength. Also items such as slings can also be used to take a significant portion of the weapons weight away whilst you are shooting, if they are used in the correct way.
