Wimbledon is a special case in that Centre Court has very few seats (15,000) compared to almost any other sports venue, to the point that a certain number of tickets are sold as 'debentures' on the London (Stock) Market at very hefty prices.

But by entering the public ballot you can win tickets, but it is unlikely that you will win and you do not get to decide what day you want to go on. But if you want to buy centre court or court 1 tickets, for the best chance of actually purchasing ticket, you will need to queue up the night before. *
