Only one Philadelphia Phillies pitcher ever hit a home run in the World Series. In Game 4 of the 2008 Fall Classic, hurler Joe Blanton hit his first major league home run. He also was credited with the win in the Phillies' 10-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

Blanton became the 13th pitcher to hit a home run in a Series. He also was the second Phillies pitcher to hit a homer in a postseason game. Steve Carlton homered in the 1978 National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
