Sachin Tendulkar was the First Batsman to be given out by the Third Umpire!
The referral system is when a bowler has appealed for a wicket and they were unhappy with the fact it was not out or a batsman isgiven out and he thinks its not out. They will put this to third umpire and he will use technology to decide not out or out.

The second batsman to be given 'run out' by the Third Umpire was Kepler Wessels of South Africa, on the third day of the second test in the South Africa v India series of 1992-1993. The exact date was Saturday 28th November 1992. Wessels was, like Sachin Tendulkar (the first batsmen to be given 'run out' by the Third Umpire) given out on 11. Kepler Wessels was the first South African to be given out by the Third Umpire.

the first batsman to be given out by a video umpire was sachin tendulkar in 1992 versus south Africa. it was the first time a decision was referred to a third umpire regarding a run out. i don't know when the third umpire was first used for disputable catches but it was probably in the 90's sometime. in the 2002 champions trophy in sri lanka a Pakistan batsman (can't remember his name or who it was against, but it was the first match of the tournamant) was the first to be given out lbw using the ever-controversial 'hawk-eye', but this technology was only on trial during this tournament.

Third man is a fielding position in cricket on the offside nearly behind the batsman generally on the boundary :)
Sachin Tendulkar was the unfortunate batsman to first be given 'out' by the third umpire. Tendulkar was run out for 11 on the second day of the Test, which was on the 14th November 1992. The TV umpires were Karl Liebenberg and Cyril Mitchley.
it was first used in cricket. it was that a team can appeal to the third umpire if they are not satisfied with the decision of the umpire. each team can have two chances
