The second batsman to be given 'run out' by the Third Umpire was Kepler Wessels of South Africa, on the third day of the second test in the South Africa v India series of 1992-1993. The exact date was Saturday 28th November 1992. Wessels was, like Sachin Tendulkar (the first batsmen to be given 'run out' by the Third Umpire) given out on 11. Kepler Wessels was the first South African to be given out by the Third Umpire.

When did video umpiring start in cricket?

the first batsman to be given out by a video umpire was sachin tendulkar in 1992 versus south Africa. it was the first time a decision was referred to a third umpire regarding a run out. i don't know when the third umpire was first used for disputable catches but it was probably in the 90's sometime. in the 2002 champions trophy in sri lanka a Pakistan batsman (can't remember his name or who it was against, but it was the first match of the tournamant) was the first to be given out lbw using the ever-controversial 'hawk-eye', but this technology was only on trial during this tournament.

What is the 2.5m lbw rule?

The guidelines issued by the ICC says that as per the rule 3.3 of the UDRS, if the ball is going to hit the middle stump despite the impact being larger than 2.5 metre the third umpire can declare the batsman out on a review. When a batsman is originally given 'Not Out' for an lbw appeal, graphics are displayed when the distance from pitching to impact is less than 40cm and the distance from impact to the stumps is greater than 2.5m. The new guidelines are: (a) If both the 40cm and 2.5m graphics appear for the same delivery, the batsman will definitely remain not out. If the 'more than 2.5m' graphic appears without the 40cm, the third umpire will be informed by Hawk-Eye of the exact distance of impact from the stumps. (b) If this distance is greater than 3.5m, the batsman will definitely remain not out. (c) If this distance is greater than 2.5m and not more than 3.5m, the third umpire is to advise the on-field umpire to overturn a 'not out' decision when some part of the ball (as presented by Hawk-Eye) is hitting the middle stump and the whole of the ball is hitting the stumps below the bottom of the bails. (d) If the ball is not hitting within the parameters outlined in (c) above, the batsman will remain 'not out'. For (c) and (d) above, the third umpire will make the judgment by viewing hawk-eye from above and side-on, and advise to the on field umpire the exact distance, view from side on and the on field umpire will actually make his decision based on this additional information provided by the third umpire, as set out above,' the ICC said.

What is referral system in test cricket?

The referral system is when a bowler has appealed for a wicket and they were unhappy with the fact it was not out or a batsman isgiven out and he thinks its not out. They will put this to third umpire and he will use technology to decide not out or out.

Where do umps stand?

The Umpire-in-chief stands behind the catcher. First base umpire stands near the foul line behind first base. The second base umpire stands towards shallow center behind second base. The third base umpire stands the same as the first base umpire. They don't necessarily have to stand in one spot. They can move wherever it is necessary for them to clearly see the game, as long as it doesn't interfere with any of the players or the ball in play.

If a batsman is on the line when the cricket bail comes off is he out?

The batsman would be outThe batsman couldbe out. You're asking a question about a possible Leg Before Wicket(LBW) dismissal, and there are multiple factors involved in such a decision. Did the ball bounce off the pitch before hitting the batsman (if it doesn't, even if it hits the batsman in line, it must be treated as if it impacts the batsman outside the line of off stump, and cannot be ruled an LBW unless the batsman does not offer a shot). Furthermore, the path of the ball must be shown to be able to continue on and hit the wicket had the batsman not been there.
