Joe Torre managed the Mets in 1979. This was before he became a genius managing the Yankees to 4 World Series wins. This was a little reminiscent of Casey Stengel, who managed the Mets after he had been a genius managing the Yankees to World Series titles. Torre duplicated Stengel's last place finishes, but without the fun.
