It all depends on what sport and how they were injured. If the player broke their leg by kicking a ball weird in soccer, it is the player's fault they were hurt. If a referee throws a Basketball at a player's head in a basketball game, it would be considered the ref's fault if there are any damages.
baseball
If the season of sport has already started the athlete gets to participate through the rest of the season
It depends how they get injured. For example in football if somebody goes in to tackle somebody and leads with there head and then breaks there neck, yes it is his own fault. If in soccer two people go in to kick the ball at the same time and ones shin snaps then itisn'treally anybody's fault because that is the game. But if in lacrosse if somebody crosschecks another player in the throat and breaks his windpipe then it is not his own fault. That is why sports have rules, to protect it's players.
