Williamsport, Pa, still the World Series ( of Little League) site. the founder was man named Carl Stotz- the year was l938, some say l939 for the full organizational apparatus to get in swing. Of some interest Stotz backed out after some years when he saw the Game getting too commercialized- sponsors such as ( Keds) sneakers right in town, etc.

The first Baseball playoff between rival leagues was in 1884, between the National League Providence Grays and the American Association New York Metropolitans. It came about when the manager of the latter, Jim Multrie, challenged the former to a playoff to determine the "true" baseball champion. Providence easily won three straight games.

The champions of the two leagues continued to play a haphazard, fairly disorganized post-season series until the American Association disappeared.

In 1903, the owner of the NL champion Pirates, Barney Dreyfuss, suggested a similar playoff between his team and the AL champion in Boston. This is generally considered the first "real" World Series, although it was an agreement between two teams instead of two leagues. There was no repeat of this series in 1904, because the NL champion NY Giants refused to play one.

A permanent agreement for a post-season championship between the two leagues was reached in 1905, governed by baseball's National Commission. Many of the rules for this were at the insistence of Giants owner John Brush.
