in tae kwon do you don't get points sparring is the only thing people do against each other. and when you get points they are counted but not recorded anywhere like a hall of fame or something
Any martial art can be studied without sparring. It is the decision of each school to determine what they teach. My style does not 'play.' Sparring is something done once someone is a black belt.

Iaito are generally made of Aluminum, which is a very ductile metal, at least when compared to steel. This means that when the blades come into contact with each other they will most likely leave deep dents in each other, so the iaito will be mangled by the end of the sparring session. For this purpose, bokken or weapons made for theatrical reenactment are better.
