The two young men were 17 year old high school seniors, Britt Gaston and Cliff Courtney, both of Waycross, Georgia. As they attempted to leave the field, they were arrested by Atlanta police and charged with disorderly conduct. Both were bailed out and paid a small fine for their run. Gaston is now a businessman in Charleston, South Carolina and Courtney is a doctor of optometry in Valdosta, Georgia.
Their names were Cliff Courtenay and Britt Gaston. They did it -- by Cliff's own admission -- because they were "thinking with a 17-year-old brain." Britt has refused almost all offers to publicly discuss the incident; Cliff will talk about it with anyone who asks, but pays more attention to his medical practice.

Due to the heavy level of death threats against Aaron, some VERY specific about when and where Hank could be killed, the Braves -- with the agreement of Aaron and the Atlanta police -- hired a professional bodyguard for their star. The guard was with Aaron at all public times, and carried a gun with a license to use it, if necessary. The guard recalled, in a TV special, how he saw the two men running towards Aaron at that moment, and had to make a split-second decision on what they might be up to. When he realized that they were just two crazy kids, he let them have their fun.
