Hurling and Gaelic football were both banned by the British in Ireland at one stage (although it was a rather ineffective ban). If by football you mean soccer not Gaelic football, the original form of fsoccerr (and Rugby) was banned at one time in England because it took up time that sohould have been spent practisign Archery!
