The game was played January 10, 1982 at Riverfront Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the San Diego Chargers 27-7 in the coldest (as measured by wind chill) game in National Football League history. The air temperature was -9 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -37 degrees. The Bengals went on to play in Super Bowl XVI, in which they were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers 26-21.
