Bungy jumping was invented by the Oxford Dangerous Sports club and first performed from the Clifton Suspension Bridge on April 1st 1979 after an alcoholic lunch in a Clifton restaurant. This and other jumps made by the same group inspired jumps in New Zealand by AJ Hackett and Chris Allum and friends. The same group from Oxford celebrated in the same restaurant exactly 10 years later.
