KC Jones
The most recent team to win a championship and not return to the tournament was last year's champions, the UNC Tar Heels. UNC won the national championship over MSU last year. This year UNC did not make the NCAA March Madness tournament everyone knows and loves but did make it into the NIT tournament.
When was the last year uk mens basketball went to the nit
No!
How much is the prize money for nit basketball and ncaa champions
No, and they've only played for one once (1989 Fiesta Bowl, a 34-21 loss to Notre Dame.)source: cfbdatawarehouse.comActually Croswenthy is technically wrong. WVU has played for the National Championship twice. Once in 1989 (the Fiesta Bowl) and again in the 1994 Sugar Bowl. The luck of the 1993 squad was just like the 1988 squad in their national title game. The Mountaineers would play the Florida Gators for a share of the national title but lost to Florida 41-7.
The Duke Blue Devils won the NCAA March Madness Championship.
National Invitation Tournament.
The National Invitation Tournament (NIT) began in 1938 and the NCAA Tournament debuted the following year. The NIT field expanded quickly and became the premier tournament during the 1940's; so much so that the NCAA scheduled their tournament after the NIT to avoid directly competing with it. This allowed teams to compete in both tournaments, with City College of New York being the first and only school to win both titles in the same year (1950). The rules were subsequently changed so a team would only qualify for one or the other.
