Check your local Golf course (Municipal or Private clubs open to public). They usually have men's and/or ladies golf club that holds regular tournaments where all members can play.
For beginners I suggest finding a par 3 course that has a club. These are easier courses for beginners

This refers to loft. The higher the loft, the higher the launch angle. It all depends on which shaft you have, but also swing speed and ability. You should start with mizuno's mx series. they are the number one brand for irons that are forged. next is Adams hybrid iron combos. very skilled in this design. taylormade follows or callaway. ping is very good the best thing for you to do is go get fitted at your local golf shop or a teaching pro at a golf course. this will help to build around a swing not you build your swing to the club. big difference.

The academic quiz tournaments from high school are great. Sadly there is no national orgnization that does similar national tournaments as adults.

The best way to get elevation on all shots is to mash the ball into the ground by hitting down on it with the club, this produces spin and therefore elevation. This may seem strange when you consider the loft of a 3 iron but it is how the pros play it. Most high handicappers try to sweep their irons but you don't need to, the clubs have been designed with the specific lofts for a reason.
Tournaments at court were considered high entertainment. These games showed the combat ability of knights and other soldiers and were presented in front of the monarchÊand court.
